Comic Book Convention Brings Star Power to Phoenix
Third Annual Amazing Arizona Comic Con hits Phoenix Convention Center Jan. 25-27, 2013; Special
guests include head of DC Comics Jim Lee, legendary Marvel Comics creator Stan Lee
PHOENIX, Ariz. (Jan. 1, 2013) – The Amazing Arizona Comic Convention returns to the Valley in January,
entertaining thousands of fans with the latest and greatest from the world of comic books, including the creator
of Spider-Man, Iron Man and X Men: Marvel Comics’ Stan Lee, and the head of DC Comics and top-selling comic
artist of all time, Jim Lee.
The third annual convention will take place at Phoenix Convention Center Jan. 25-27, 2013, and will feature
a show floor packed with more than 100 exhibitors, an exciting artist alley with more than 100 artists, and
autograph sessions, which will give fans access to some of their favorite comic book creators. Weekend
passes are $50, Saturday passes are $35, and Friday- or Sunday-only passes are $25. Tickets are available at all

“We are really excited to kick off comic book convention season by bringing two of the most high-profile
creators of the last 70 years to the Amazing Arizona Comic Convention in Phoenix,” said Jimmy Jay, co-owner of
Jay Company Comics and promoter of Amazing Arizona Comic Con. “With two successful shows under our belt,
we have decided to move to one of the biggest convention venues in the Valley for 2013, and we plan to give
our fans another memorable show with our best guest line-up yet.”
Stan Lee, who just turned 90 and is the legendary creator of Spider-Man, Iron Man, Avengers and X Men, is
giving away $2,000 worth of comics from his personal collection to a lucky fan.
Jim Lee, the head of DC Comics and the best-selling comic artist of all time, is known for fan favorite stories X
Men, Batman and Justice League. The Amazing Arizona Comic Con 2013 will be the first time he attends a comic
convention in Arizona. Superman, DC Comics’ top icon, turns 75 this year, and Warner Bros is releasing a new
blockbuster Superman movie this summer, Man of Steel. Jim Lee will be launching a new comic series by the
same title, paving the way for the next 75 years.
The event’s guest list is indeed one of the best of any comic convention in the southwest, and is sure to thrill
the most die-hard comic book fans. But the weekend also offers entertainment for the general public, including
Kids’ Day Sunday featuring Mat Nastos – one of the artists behind the Disney Channel’s Phineas and Ferb. Nastos
will do free sketches for kids 10 and under. All weekend long, attendees can test their gaming skills in the Video
Game Arena set up by the Arizona Hobbyist Paradise.
Valley local John Layman who was tapped this year to contribute as a writer and artist for Detective Comics.
Layman will lead a panel featuring a group of prominent Batman creators, who will discuss the new Joker
storyline, ‘Death of the Family,’ which is a top-selling title.
Kids’ Day will take place Sunday, Jan. 27, 2013. Mat Nastos, writer and artist for the Disney Channel’s Phineas
and Ferb will sign autographs and draw pictures for kids in attendance. Boom Studios will bring the popular
Adventure Time comics, based on the hit animated show. Kids’ Day will also feature a kids’ costume contest,
with all participants receiving a special prize.
In addition, the event will be visited by a number of costume groups, including Arizona Avengers – an exclusive
costuming group based on Marvel Comics’ The Avengers, live action Star Wars troop The 501st, and Justice
League Arizona – a ‘cosplay’ group based on DC heroes, all of whom will pose for picture and otherwise engage
with fans and media.
